Thank you so much for everyone who has used this small Chrome extension I wrote out of sheer annoyance. I had no idea so many people would end up using it, but I'm glad it was a good stop gap in the meantime. However, Google has obviously done far more and now they actually offer the ability to install their website as a PWA to your Chrome instance. If you don't want to install that for some reason, another option is this fully native desktop app developed in Electron.

Relying on Google would be the best bet and the experience is identical to this extension you've been using, but I won't be continuing to support or update this extension any longer, because I have moved on to relying on Google's PWA instead and unfortunately I don't have time. I won't remove it from the Chrome web store for those of you who do use it, but please understand that I will not be pushing any updates! Thanks so much!

Google has given us a great web application and features to text from the web. However, texting from a browser window that's cluttered with extra tabs, bookmarks, URL fields, icons and buttons all over the place feels like it takes away from the elegance of the Messages for Web experience.

In order to help create a more minimalistic experience that lets you focus only on the conversations you're having, there is the Messages for Web extension! This extension simply opens a bare popup without any of the annoyances of the browser and lets you access Message for Web as it should have been.
