= What this web extension does and why we developed it. =When we realised that we were getting addicted to some of the websites on the internet such as facebook, twitter, pinterest, youtube, online email and news sites and wasting our valuable time there, we decided to develop a web browser add-on to get us off that addiction. The Switch Off add-on is a result of that effort. What we realised within a few days of using this add-on is that it is really very effective in curtailing web browsing addiction and online distraction. So we sent it to our friends and family members for them to give it a try, and got a very fantastic response! After using it for a couple of months and with really positive feedback from friends and families we decided to make it available to everyone. We are charging a very small monthly subscription amount to cover the development cost (you may increase the amount if you like the add-on and want to support us). We hope that Switch Off helps you make very productive use of your time both at work and at home when browsing the internet.
The goal of Switch Off service is to prevent it's users from online distractions and web browsing addiction. To achieve this simple goal, we developed two options:
1. To block addictive websites and enable them only at specified time and for specific duration of everyday, and
2. To limit the number of web browser tabs that can be opened to avoid information overload and limit going into "information rabbit-hole".
The ethos of the design of Switch Off service is that simple things are easy to use and effective. Hence the interface to the service is very minimal and provides just two options for it's configuration. We hope that it is as useful and effective to you as it has been to us in increasing our productivity.
